The sun feels ever-present behind clouds in Sophie Knight’s abstracted compositions, creating optimistic,
fantastical frames from the mundane or melancholic. Knight manipulates signs to tell stories that could be true in a world so-perfect.

Deceptively naive, both in theme and technique, she fastidiously contrasts between glossy hyperreal and dulled strokes. I Pace The Bar is as much about validation and recognition as it is joyful abandon. Who wins, who loses and who decides?

In an exuberant leap of faith toward a hurdle, the purebred’s crisp focus outshines the improbability of success - he must not be denied the experience of failure! A wall of ribbons celebrates a win, a wish. Somewhere between a call to prayer and a siren’s song, Knight’s headlights pull us in, we are unsure if we are being led towards truth or we are being lured in as prey. There lies humor and vulnerability in Knight’s earnest exploration into larger questions of self-knowing and the spiritual journey.
